Hello Trenton Rotarians!
I hope all of you had an enjoyable week of Rotary. It started with a visit from District Governor John Chambers who shared his vision for this Rotary year. One item he spoke of is a recurring theme - membership. Rotary International membership has stayed stagnant the last several years, with membership in some parts of the world growing and membership in the U.S. shrinking. Rotary International suggested ideas to him to present to the clubs in his District. DG John would have shared them with us. But we as a District, and as a club, are already trying these "new" ideas. This is another indication of why we are the best club in the best District in the Rotary world! "Family" is another theme DG John spoke to us about. He again indicated that we need to make Rotary a part of our families and our families a part of Rotary. With that thought in mind, I wanted to let you know that the fun committee is putting the final touches on a family Halloween hayride at Westcroft Gardens on Grosse Ile. Keep your eyes open for more details as space will be limited for this upcoming event. DG John and his wife Sandy also visited with us at our 5:01 meeting at Sibley Gardens and the Extendables meeting afterwards. I would like to thank all of you for your support, as we had an overflow crowd for both meetings!
DG John was extremely pleased to perform one of his favorite tasks, the induction of Bruce Wyke as our newest member. He also had the honor of presenting Paul Harris awards to Ray Yee and Alyssa Angellotti. He is quite impressed with our motivation to do the right thing and wanted me to let everyone know that the Trenton Rotary Club is truly special.
Many Rotarians took part in Tuesday's "Grub Crawl" sponsored by the Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber. It was a truly enjoyable time on an absolutely fantastic summer evening. On Thursday evening, several Rotarians went to TV's Grand Event in support of Christ Net, who is looking to complete the kitchen in their new facility. The evening was highlighted by three guests bartenders, including our own Noel Jackson and Kathy Kane! Kathy's famous Nipper KoolAid was a hit and enjoyed by all who tried it. Congratulations to Kathy and Noel for helping Christ Net raise over $2,000.00!
Mark Tremper, Vice-President of Marketing and Community Development for Downriver Community Federal Credit Union, will be joining us Monday to show us the benefits of joining a Credit Union and provide us some money tips. On Monday evening, the Trenton Rotary Club will be presenting Paul Harris awards to two men who have made a substantial, positive impact in the City of Trenton. The awards will be presented at the Trenton City Council meeting to Paul Haley and posthumously to his father Clarence Haley. Since these awards are coming from the club, it would be a great show of support to attend the presentation.
Before I sign off, I want to ask you something that has puzzled me for a long, long time. Why do we drive on a parkway, but park on a driveway?

The Trenton Rotary is fantastic! Thank you so much for your support of the ChristNet Guest Bartender Night at TV’s Grand Event. Kathy Kane, Noel Jackson and Vic Stroia were terrific bartenders. Rotary members turned out in force to support the cause and Ronnie has lots of pictures to prove it. We made about $2000 on the event! We are very thankful and appreciative of the past and continued support we receive from Trenton Rotary. Thank You!!!

Ed Shenton
Edward Shenton graduated from Kenmore, New York High School and the University of Buffalo. He was in the Army in Heidelberg, Germany from 1963 to 1965. After that he came to Detroit as a Buyer for the J.L. Hudson Company. His retail career ended with retirement from the Bostwick-Braun Co. in Toledo, Ohio as National Accounts Manager in 2009.
Edward married Alice (Stewart) in 1967. They are the parents of four children, all graduates of Trenton High School, and have ten grandchildren, ages 9 to 25.
Edward and Alice are active members of Faith United Methodist Church in Trenton.
Rotary activities for Ed have included Salvation Army Bell Ringing, Shred-It Chairperson, Roar on the River Committee as well as taking the role as club treasurer in 2014 - 2015.
Edward is grateful to Tom Dickman for recruiting him to join the Rotary Club of Trenton on February 20, 2010. He truly appreciates the fine fellowship of its members and the numerous activities to influence and improve our community.
