Noel Jackson with help from y'all handed out to the second grade students at Anderson and Hedke schools pine tree seedlings. About 200 seedlings with help as to how to plant and care for the trees. We're getting closer to one tree planted for every Rotarian!  Also, Saturday we helped with the shred day, it's a nice thing to do, even it' raining and lightening. So now it's to next Saturday for planting trees at the Rotary park, It'll be a good thing too.

Vocational Minute: Meet Matt Hatty. He serves as President nominee this year but has also served as Treasurer and Secretary of the Club. He has served on many event committees but is known for his attention to detail and his love of Fun, give his business Fun Services a like!

 

 

 

 

 

Back in February, Rotary International President Elect Barry Rassin announced his theme for the coming Rotary year (from 1st July).

At the time, I posted a blog article saying this was a tangible, relatable, easy to understand theme. I didn’t know at the time how much I was going to be talking about it in the coming months, and admittedly I hadn’t taken the time to watch the video of the announcement. I just responded to the announcement and took what I thought was right from the message.

Until now…

It turns out – my thoughts on this new theme were actually bang on!

President Elect Barry Rassin asked Rotarians to inspire our clubs, inspire our groups of clubs, inspire with our projects and events but in order to do this we need to consider what our own inspirations are before we can inspire others.

This lead me to consider my own inspiration :

My inspiration is my Mum.

I use the present tense even though we lost Mum to breast cancer in 2001. She was 59.

Mum was an incredibly kind, thoughtful and caring person. She’d do anything for anyone. Family, Friends, Neighbours, Colleagues. She didn’t really worry about who they were or what they did.

Mum was fair, truthful, a real friend to many, and she always put others before herself. If my mum was here today, I think she’d make a good Rotarian.

I try to do as my Mum would do in helping others when I can.

Obviously with family life this has it’s challenges, but Mum would appreciate that. I’m sure she’d be incredibly proud of our family – Marthe, Thomas, Madison but also she’d be supportive and proud of this family. We are much like an extended family, we have many different characters and we have differences of opinion, but there are more frequent occasions where we pull together to do great things for others. We are a family who have achieved an incredibly amount in a very short period.

As Rotarians we are in a unique, privileged position to take a look at what we can do to inspire others to take action. At Maidenhead Bridge we include our families, the younger generation, and by doing so we have the opportunity to inspire them to help others. Thomas, Madison and all the youngsters around us will grow up to be the next generation of Rotary.

At today’s meeting, I told our club about my Mum. It was an emotional moment, as I remembered her fondly. We then had a few minutes to consider our own inspirations, and the response from the members who were there was incredible. (Thank you everyone)

I asked our club to make our young families proud, so in 30 years’ time they can look back and cite us as their inspiration.

I’ve already had a few people asking if we can revisit our inspirations over the coming year, so this concept in itself has “inspired” us to do greater things.
