We Need You and Your Ideas for "The D in Downriver"
Please help us with a new fundraiser as we form the concept for a Detroit themed event. For starters we are thinking of calling it , "The "D" (English D) in Downriver on March 3 at Crystal Gardens.
Our first committee group meets Sept. 15, 7pm at Mom's Restaurant.
This "all about" Detroit party started with a motown concept but some said they didn't like just one genre so if we may consider the band Saints of Souls, a Detroit band versed in Motown, Rythym and Blues, and top dance tunes.
We are thinking of adding elements like a Casino area, Detroit star look a likes, like Kid Rock, Maddona, Paws, Diana Ross, ect..Of course our auctions would run similiar to Beach blast but of course hyping the Red Wings, Lions and Tigers.
We could also maybe get tickets to Fisher, Fox, breweries, ect. Instead of coconut cash, maybe Motown Money. Also the decor could be various "corners or architecture of Detroit"...just to share a few concepts to get your brainstorming hats on for the meeting. Thanks for your help!
Mark your calendars for the follow up committee meetings - October 13, November 17 & December 15 at Mom's at 7:00 p.m.

Make-up Meeting on Hilton Head Island
Scott and I went to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina a couple weeks back and decided we had time to do a Rotary makeup meeting while we were there.
Hilton Head Island has 39,000 residents and they have three Rotary clubs: Hilton Head Island-Van Landingham that meets on Tuesdays at 8am, Hilton Head Island-Sunset that meets on Mondays at 6:30pm, and Hilton Head Island that meets on Thursdays at noon. We chose the Thursday noon meeting at the Sea Pines Country Club and this club has 150+ members with about 90 in attendance!
They started their meeting singing “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and saying a prayer. They also do Happy Dollars! They talked about a project they had just completed constructing a house with Habitat for Humanity for a deserving family on the island. Their speaker was a Hospice representative and she presented an overview of their services, including “Hospets” that provides assistance to pet owners that can’t care for their pets and “Hop Aboard” that arranges trips on yachts for their clients. They finished their meeting with the Four Way Test. I noticed that they have the same round badges that we do.
It was an interesting experience to go and check out another club far from home but similar to us in many ways. I’d recommend it! -- submitted by Rose Angela Gronda
