Hello my Rotary Friends,
Happy Easter all! What a beautiful day. Hopefully this is the real beginning of our warmer weather.
In case you were not there, our speaker last week was a Grosse Pointe Rotarian named Julie Baumer. Julie was wrongfully convicted of shaken baby/child abuse. It would take 8 years but she was finally exonerated. Her story and her efforts to help people in the same scenario was very interesting. This week Bill Jasman will fill us in on his El Salvador Experience.
Yesterday Noel Jackson and I were notified that his Grant request for assistance in building the dental clinic addition in Ghana has been approved. The grant request was for $5000, unfortunately the volume and quality of the requests restricted the award to $2500. A good amount to get started with. Thank you for your efforts Noel and rest assured our club will help you close the gap.
Last Thursday morning was our latest Board meeting. DYPAC, Downriver Council for the Arts and Screenagers were three worthy recipients this month. Keep your eyes open for the filming of Screenagers on May 21st and the Trenton Village Theater. This program has the ability to touch many lives and make an impact on our community. We also approved $125 for the purchase of some backpacks and ingredients to bring to District Conference. Look for a Clubrunner e-mail for a list of items required. Bring them to a Monday meeting and we will take it from there. We will also be collecting new or gently used footwear as well to take as well.
Thursday evening the Roar Committee met at Jock’s and Associates. We have a substantial number of TORC members who have stepped up to help. They deserve our best effort. I would like to implore upon those of you who have helped in the past that your knowledge and experience can be a great help to TORC and those who are going to carry the torch after this year. No matter how many years who have helped, our club can use your help now. I am asking that all who have something to add to our project do so. Thank you.
To round out our activities we are assisting the City with its annual Shred Day. Pease seek out Bill Jasman or Larry Kearney to see if your help is needed. Thank you to everyone who makes our club, THE club.
