Today, we're looking forward to hearing from Dr. Nykiel and Dr. Jackson about their Dental Mission Trip to Nicaragua. The work they do on this trip is amazing and it's so great to hear the stories firsthand!
We're just over a week away from our "Girls Got Wine" event on May 6th! We have several vendors signed up to put their products on display. We've also got some sponsorships for both food and drink that will help bring a nice evening together. We'll have a nice selection of raffle items too. We'll be wrapping up the details and making sure it's another great event this year!
District Conference is here! The weather forecast is looking pretty good with highs in the mid-60's and sunshine...can't complain about that! The following Rotarians are signed up to attend: Mike McCullough, Noel Jackson, John Allen, Bill Jasman, Kyle Stack, Rick Williams and myself. We hope to bring some good information and stories back next week!
An age is called "dark," not because the light fails to shine but because people refuse to see it. ~James Michner
***April is Maternal and Child Health Month***
Check out the story starting on page 30 of the May 2015 edition of the The Rotarian Magazine. The story describes how a former aide to presidential hopeful Gary Hart started a campaign to help feed hungry children. It evolved into something different than the original plan. It also attracted actor Jeff Bridges to join the charge.
“A skeptic might ask: “ How can Rotary be a real force for peace? It has no jurisdictional power. It is not a religion. It has no army or tanks, and it insists on being non-political.” Such a viewpoint looks at peace as something that can be ordered or militarily enforced, as if it is only the responsibility of governments. Rotary has always approached peacemaking systematically – it has sought to break down the barriers that cause people to point fingers at one another. By trying to understand peoples’ points of view and reaching across lines of race, religion, and culture to become partners in service to all mankind, tensions are reduced and friendships are increased. Humanitarian aid has been Rotary’s answer to hunger sickness, illiteracy and economic disaster – the seeds of conflict.” - Your contribution to The Rotary Foundation will help that aid continue. -- From A Century of Service: The Story of Rotary International by David C. Forward.
