March 30, 2015
Welcome to our speaker for today, Kathy Kane, who will give us an update on social media!
If you've volunteered to be on the "Girls Got Wine" committee or would like to join, please stay after for the first official committee meeting today after Rotary. Val has so kindly volunteered to chair the event again this year! The meeting should only take 15 to 20 minutes. We had great success last year and we hope to continue the streak! Please help to support the cause in any way you can.
Rick Nykiel sent us a couple pictures from Nicaragua that you'll see in this newsletter. We hope things are going well and the team arrives home safely. They're expected back Tuesday, March 31st. We look forward to hearing about their trip and their good works!
If you've never been to District Conference and you're still considering it, don't forget the offer we made back in August when DG Liz Smith made her visit. The club will pay for your registration! It's not too late to sign up so please keep this in mind!
District Assembly takes place on Saturday, April 18th, at the Vista Tech Center in Livonia, beginning with registration and breakfast at 8am. This is a good place to go and get updates for officers, such as president, president-elect, treasurer, secretary as well as youth exchange policies. It's also a great place for newer members to learn more about Rotary. If you have any questions or would like to attend, please see Bob Howey.
You will find links to recent meeting minutes at the bottom of the newsletter. Click on the link to see what worthy causes we've been supporting and the important work we've been doing!
We'll meet this Wednesday, April 1st, for Rotary After Hours at Savannah's starting at 5:30pm. Please come join us for some fun and fellowship!
Have a good week!

***March is Water and Sanitation Month***
Clean water is a basic need for human beings. When people, especially children, have access to clean water, they live healthier and more productive lives. However, at least 3,000 children die each day from diseases caused by unsafe water, which is what motivates our members to build wells, install rainwater harvesting systems, and teach community members how to maintain new infrastructure.
While very few people die of thirst, millions die from preventable waterborne diseases, providing the impetus for our members to also improve sanitation facilities in undeveloped countries. Members start by providing toilets and latrines that flush into a sewer or safe enclosure and then add education programs to promote hand-washing and other good hygiene habits.
Besides all the interesting presentations, there is free time to enjoy activities in the area. To find out what activities are available, and how to sign up, click this link: http://rotary6400.org/DisCon15/DISCON%20Activities-2.pdf

As stated in Rotary’s 2013-14’s Annual Report, “In the face of intimidation from militant groups, Rotarians have established eight polio resource center in Pakistan to build community trust in areas at high risk for the disease. The centers, along with individual Rotary clubs, sponsor a range of free health services. They also advocate for immunization of children in schools, and help to provide it. They work with leading Islamic scholars through the Pakistan Ulema PolioPlus Committee, which strongly endorses the drive to rid the country of the disease.
According to the website Polioeradication.org, “In Pakistan, efforts are continuing to tighten up strategies and ensure implementation of the “low season” emergency operations plan. Strong coordination of activities by Emergency Operations Centres at federal and provincial level is helping to evaluate implementation and enable corrective measures as necessary.”
As of March 21 there have been 19 cases of polio in 2015 compared to 29 at this time last year. Your contribution to The Rotary Foundation and specifically Polioplus has enabled this to happen. Thank you.
