Reminder: Rotary Club of Trenton Family Christmas Party

TRENTON ROTARY ANGEL TREE TAG PROGRAM FOR SALVATION ARMY
October 7 was the beginning of our project to help the Salvation Army with their Angel Tree Tag Program. 29 Trenton Rotarians and spouses and friends and Trenton High School Interact members met at Westfield Center to make 53 blankets to donate to the teenagers eligible for the program. Money was donated by our Rotary Club for the materials.
During November we had volunteers helping to register families who were eligible to participate in the program and to receive the gifts and food baskets. Jim Schropp, Ron Sheck, Dennis and Renee Levko, Tom Dickman, Kim Ariganello, Wes Mator, Ray and Sue Yee, Karine Sawka and Dale and Barb Malzahn assisted.
Also in November, we distributed 40 Angel Tree Tags to Rotarians who were willing to do some shopping for those in need. Mark, Dennis, Paulette and Bill delivered the piles of presents to the Salvation Army before the set up days began.
In December, set up and assisting the families in the Angel Tree shop began. Paulette and Bill assisted in set up and those helping the families shop were Karine and her family, Ruth, Paulette and Bill, Jean, Wes and Ray Yee.
Trenton Rotarians and friends devoted 108 volunteer hours for this project. Thanks to everyone who volunteered or took the Angel Tree Tags. We should all be proud of the service we do for the community!

Season's Greetings Trenton Rotarians!
I don't know about you, but I find that Christmas music really helps me get into the spirit of Christmas. And this past week, we had the Trenton High School Chorale join us at our meeting and inspire us with a few Christmas carols. What an outstanding job they did! Many thanks to Director Mike Kurilko and the students in the Chorale for joining us again this year and ushering in the season with their beautiful music.
Speaking of Christmas music, I recently heard some Christmas songs that I hadn't heard before (or maybe I had, but it was so long ago I didn't remember it). These songs made me smile and helped put me in the Christmas mood, so I thought I'd share the YouTube links to them. For a song with a lot of joy ,energy and enthusiasm, and a trip through the clothing and hair styles of the '70's, take a look at Merry Christmas Everybody<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpfHSqLXePI> by Slade. If you like a little irreverence, try the Kink's Father Christmas<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPPCPqDINEk>. It's a little bit edgy, but there is actually a nice sentiment towards the end. Then there's the offering by Cheap Trick. You know, Cheap Trick? "I Want You To Want Me"? "Live at Budokon"? THAT Cheap Trick. The end of the calendar year is kind of a slow time for Rotary. It's for spending time with family and friends during the holiday season. But there IS some Rotary work being done. Your Board of Directors just held their December meeting to take care of club business. Preparations are being made for this Monday's Rotary Family Christmas Luncheon. And the new year will find us preparing for the Children's Fun Fair and Sham-Rockin' On The River, as well as Kathy preparing for her year as President. So enjoy yourselves the next couple of weeks. We'll be back at it the first of the year.
Please bring your spouse, kids and grandkids to the meeting this Monday and enjoy our Family Christmas Luncheon. It'll be a great way to kick-off Christmas week! Don't forget we have no meeting NEXT Monday, December 30. We will next meet on Monday, January 6.

Salvation Army Bellringing Update
So, for the inquiring minds, this is the status report for the bellringing project.
We had 55 of the 64 slots filled this year, including Rotarians and friends of Rotary. That represented 110 hours of coverage that the Salvation Army did not have to pay bell ringers, congratulations!
The totals for the respective parts of the project are as follows:
Bell Ringing totaled $11,376. up from $6,989 in 2018. Thanks to the $20 matching of course, but that only happens with your smiling faces ringing the bells and wishing all a Merry Christmas.
The Trenton Rotary Band Restaurant Tour generated $2,075, up from $1,219 last year. We visited Mr. Nicks, Sibleys(2 times), Savanah's, The American Legion, The Grand, Truago's, The Round House, Perdino's, Lloyds, Brewligans and Riverview Highlands. The reception at each restaurant was great, no complaints from the proprietors or the guests.
And of course, generous donations were made again this year totaling $16,030, down slightly from the previous years donations of $18,775, but there are a few commitments left to be fulfilled that should shore up that number nicely.
In a nutshell, we are just shy of $30k as we speak, so once we get the final commitments funded, I am sure we will surpass $30k.
Wow, the generosity of the club membership in both talent, time and treasures is to be commended. And yet, for those of us that rang the bell, the giving spirit of the donors is overwhelming as they come from all walks of life and whether they donated a penny or a twenty, thanks is given for the generosity extended to make someone else's Christmas special.
