The WORLD PEACE CONFERENCE 2017 was a resounding success!

Nearly seven hundred participants focused on how to:

Promote and practice peace in their own communities and beyond
Prevent and mediate conflict
Challenge their thinking through diverse perspectives

The Conference was a unique opportunity for youth, community leaders and Rotarians to exchange ideas and solutions with peace professionals from around the world.

This exciting event was hosted by the Michigan, northern Indiana, northwest Ohio and southern Ontario based Rotary clubs representing over 15,000 Rotarians on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor, MI, March 31-April 1, 2017.

Rotary Economic and Community Development Month

Empower others during Rotary Economic and Community Development Month.

According to the United Nations, global unemployment increased from 170 million people in 2007 to nearly 202 million in 2012, about 75 million of whom were young women and young men. October, Rotary Economic and Community Development Month, is a great opportunity to leverage your vocational skills to help meet the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 8: promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment, and decent work for all. Read on for ideas on how to empower members of your community.

#Generate income and savings

- Partner with a local microlender to improve access to financial services and provide financial infrastructure within a community.

- Offer training on mobile banking resources. Mobile phones, which can be used to make deposits and transfer funds, can increase access to banking systems in developing communities.

#Empower members of your community through jobs and entrepreneurship

- Provide training in skills and leadership for young people and women.
- Host an event for business networking and professional development.
- Send a vocational training team to teach business leaders in developing communities how to create a business plan and maintain accurate financial accounting.

Support economic and community development projects on Rotary Ideas and join a Rotary discussion group to share your expertise with fellow members.

President;s Report for October 23

Oh my aching back, and shoulders, we planted the trees Saturday with help from the DG Rick and Rotarians from Windsor, Taylor, Dearborn and Detroit. A job well done y all.

I went to the Penrickton Center kick of dinner with some fellow Trenton Rotarians and was pleased to present a check to the center for $9K from the Tailgate party. Some times being president of the club isn't all work.

I will be entertaining Gov. Rick at this Mondays meeting and I hope to see y'all there.

Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber Women of Achievement Award Luncheon - Oct 20

Congratulations to Kathy Kane, recipient of the Women of Achievement Leadership Award and Laurie Dixon recipient of the Entrepreneur Award. These Trenton Rotarians were honored on Friday, October 20 at the Holiday Inn in Southgate. Over 180 attendess watched as these women were recognized. Other recipients were Dr Stan Jensen, President of Henry Ford College - Community Award and Leah Cooley - Unsung Heroine award. Next year's event will be October 19th.
