Rick Nykiel
Dr. Nykiel is a life-long resident of Downriver currently living in Brownstown. He graduated from Grosse Ile High School in 1970. He attended Adrian College where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1974, while playing basketball and golf. He then attended the University of Detroit, receiving a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 1978. Dr. Nykiel did a three year Orthodontic and a two year Cosmetic training program with Straight Wire Seminars and Louisiana State University respectfully.
He is a member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association and the Detroit District Dental Society, where he serves on the program selection committee for the annual Scientific Meeting. As a member of the Academy of General Dentistry he served on the Annual Meetings Council from 2007-2014 and received his Fellowship in 2011. He is currently Treasurer and Past President of the Michigan Academy of General Dentistry from 2014-2015. Dr. Nykiel served on the Board of Directors of the University Of Detroit Mercy School Of Dentistry Alumni Association from 2008-2015. He served as President from 2013-2015.
A 39 year member of the Trenton Rotary Club and the Grosse Ile Golf and Country Club. He is a Past President of both organizations. Dr. Nykiel serves on three different scholarship foundations. Providing scholarships for college bound students.
Dr. Nykiel's son, Derek, a Trenton High School grad received all-state honors in hockey for the 1997-98 state championship team. Derek completed a Residency program at St. Johns Hospital in Detroit for Oral and Maxillo-Facial Surgery in 2016 and an M.D. degree from Wayne State University. He is in private practice in Bingham Farms and lives in Novi with his wife Heather, also a Trenton grad, and daughters Brooke and Aubree and son Luke. Heather is a CRNA at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital.
Dr. Nykiel along with Dr. Jackson, their spouses and several team members traveled to Nicaragua for 10 years providing dentistry and establishing a clinic for impoverished adults and children. Thanks to the support of the Trenton Rotary, several district clubs and especially the Howey Foundation.
Dr. Nykiel has practiced General Dentistry in Trenton and Woodhaven for 43 years. He lives in Brownstown with his wife Margaret. He enjoys golf, flying, skiing, biking, hunting, fishing, all sports and of course Dentistry.
