Hello Fellow Rotarians!

Hope everyone is enjoying these summertime days!  As I returned from a few days in Oscoda enjoying some of my favorite water activities, I couldn’t help but reflect on how truly blessed we are to have this wonderful resource of water...and how easily it is taken for granted.    My thoughts turned to our excellent speaker last week - Rachel O’Neill and her organization’s efforts to provide clean water in remote African villages among other humanitarian relief efforts.  It was amazing and refreshing to see how “Little Dresses for Africa” actually parallels what our own wonderful Rotary organization does.   I encourage everyone to visit rotary.org, click on “Our Causes” and view the humanitarian initiatives.  If so moved, you can simply write a check to the Rotary Foundation and mail it to our PO Box.  Your donation will be applied to those important humanitarian causes.  Being true to my word, here is the contact information for Rachel O’Neill for those of you who asked for it at the meeting:   734-637-9064, www.littledressesforafrica.org   

As I was kayaking down the Au Sable River, I thought how wonderful it is to have CLEAN water to enjoy!  We all play an important part in caring for our environment and I encourage everyone to GO GREEN.  Now I already know half of you are saying – NO!  GO BLUE!!!  LOL … but in the spirit of caring for our environment, please consider some simple activities such as recycling, choosing paper over plastic, and changing out lighting to LED.  I am also asking that you consider being part of our Environment committee led by Bob Burns.   This committee will provide environmental updates and education to our members.   They will also make us aware of local environmental activities that we can participate in.   They will provide the path on what we can do - as Rotarians can better support our environment.      Please consider being part of this new committee – it will be fun!  Hope everyone has a great week!   

It's not too late to "RECONNECT" with each other at our first fellowship activity this Wednesday, July 28th at Bob Howey's home.  Open Book Theatre will provide the entertainment at this potluck dinner that starts at 6:00.  Thank you Krista Schafer Ewbanks for sponsoring this for our club!   Everyone - please contact Paulette Dillingham if you would like to join us.   Thank you Membership Engagement committee for planning this fun event!

This is a reminder of our club Fun & Fellowship gathering at the home of Bob & Karen Howey, 2945 Riverside Dr, Trenton, MI 48183. This event is being held Wednesday, July 28. We will be having a pot luck dinner starting at 6:00 pm. Krista Schafer-Ewbank and her Open Book Theatre Company will be entertaining us with their Driveway Theatre starting at 7:00 pm. We will be having "Sloppy Joes" and pulled pork as out main dishes. We could use baked beans, macaroni and cheese, salads and desserts. If there is a particular specialty that you like to make, please bring that. Water will be available, but all other drinks are BYOB.
