Welcome to our speaker for today, Shobita Suresh, our outbound youth exchange student who traveled abroad this past year. We look forward to hearing about her time in Bolivia and all she learned!
Congratulations to Bob Howey for successfully completing the President Elect Training Seminar this weekend in Kalamazoo! We'll hear a bit about his weekend and the theme for 2015/2016.
Please consider attending Southgate Rotary's meeting on Wednesday at noon at the Southgate Holiday Inn to hear DGE Wayne Titus give a glimpse of his plans for his year as district governor. Lunch is $15 per person with a $1 discount if you bring diapers or wipes to help with their Basic Needs Drive.
On Friday evening, the Allen Park Rotary is hosting their 3rd Annual Craft Beer / Wine Tasting Event beginning at 6pm. This event is $35 per person and is held at Baker College. It's a nice event with good food, spirits, music and auctions.
If you've never been to District Conference and you're still considering it, don't forget the offer we made back in August when DG Liz Smith made her visit. The club will pay for your registration! It's not too late to sign up so please keep this in mind!
Board members, we'll meet at Jean's house at 6pm tomorrow evening for our March board meeting. See you then!
Have a good week!

***March is Water and Sanitation Month***
Clean water is a basic need for human beings. When people, especially children, have access to clean water, they live healthier and more productive lives. However, at least 3,000 children die each day from diseases caused by unsafe water, which is what motivates our members to build wells, install rainwater harvesting systems, and teach community members how to maintain new infrastructure.
While very few people die of thirst, millions die from preventable waterborne diseases, providing the impetus for our members to also improve sanitation facilities in undeveloped countries. Members start by providing toilets and latrines that flush into a sewer or safe enclosure and then add education programs to promote hand-washing and other good hygiene habits.

Foundation Minute for Week of March 23
Maternal and infant mortality rates are high in East Africa, mainly due to inadequate health care, the HIV/AIDS crisis, and poverty. In response, The Rotary Foundation and Aga Khan University have connected to provide scholarships to nursing and midwifery students at Aga Khan’s campuses in Nairobi, Kenya, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; and Kampapa, Uganda.
The first class of twenty four students, whose scholarships were funded by Rotary grants, graduated from the two-year program in February with either a Registered Nurse or Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The students also attended Rotary club meetings, volunteered at Rotary service projects and shared challenges with Rotary members who mentored them.
Geeta Manek, a member of the Rotary Club of Muthaiga, Kenya, says “In rural Kenya, having a nurse or midwife present during childbirth can mean the difference between life and death. This class of highly trained nurses will help ensure that mothers and their infants receive the best health care possible.”
Your donation to The Rotary Foundation makes this possible. Thank you.
