"The Ramblings of the Mad Hatter"

Greetings Trenton Rotarians!

Things have been heating up within your club despite the return of winter. The week started with former Trenton police officer Ed Quirk speaking on conflict resolution. The company that he works for, Gentle Response, provides de-escalation training for groups who want to be ready for conflict situations with their members. He mentioned three important attributes/skills that a person needs to help resolve these situations. The first one is appearance. You must remain alert and be in control of your emotions and behavior. The second one is communication. You must remain calm, don't accuse anyone of anything and don't take anything you hear personally. The third one is engagement. You must actively and reflectively listen, respect the differences of the people involved and try to work together to resolve the situation. What a terrific presentation for the end of February, the month that Rotary has given the theme of "Peace and Conflict Resolution."

Your "Sham-Rockin' on the River" committee has the upcoming event in great shape. It's less than one week away. Decorations are being made. Auction items are being prepared. Ticket sales are booming. Everybody who is anybody will be at Smuggler's Run on Saturday evening. Don't miss out. Get your tickets now, before we're sold out.

The Red Wings fund raiser committee has everything set for the March 16th game. You can still order tickets. See the sign-up sheet at Monday's meeting.

"Reading With Characters" is Saturday, March 21. A volunteer sign-up sheet will be passed around Monday's meeting. Also, I'm looking for six volunteers to read to the third graders at Anderson and Hedke schools sometime in March to commemorate "Reading Month.". Please see me if you are interested.

I hope you enjoyed the extra day that 2020 provided for you. One more day to do the right thing, connect the world and live the Rotary motto, "Service Above Self."
