Keith is resigning from Rotary and is going to be moving for health reasons. As sad as we are, we wish Keith the best and hope to keep in touch.

Missy introduced Congressman Joe Courtney and thanked Steve Adams for inviting him to be this week’s speaker. Congressman Courtney first talked about Ukraine. He commended Woodstock Academy for bringing Ukrainian children here. He spoke about the war in Ukraine and the push to drive the Russian forces out of southern Ukraine especially the Odessa area. He serves on the Armed Services Committee.
He also spoke about the Chips and Science Bill and how the Billions of dollars in it, will help new production of semiconductors and micro chips here in the US. He expects this Bill to be signed tomorrow. He also talked about the Toxic Soldier Bill that would help vets who were exposed to Burn Pits. This Bill will make applying for help easier than Viet Nam vets who were exposed to Agent Orange, were they had to give exact dates and times of when they were exposed. Joe also discussed the Inflation Reduction Act, that passed this past weekend in the Senate that will allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices with the drug companies. It would also set a cap of $2,000 for out-of-pocket drugs. The Bill will also help with climate change. It will help local farmer especially Dairy farmers to purchase solar panels. A question-and-answer session followed with many folks thanking the congressman for all his help with creating and keeping jobs in CT.

Presidents Report:
Keith is moving to NC Aug 19th and she spoke with the president of the local Rotary club, where Keith will be living, who will invite him to join their club. The President is the head of their local special Olympics.
Pop Up Service Needs- Pluck a Duck needs help in the morning to set up from 8-10am and 3-5pm, Sunday August 21st.
Town of Thompson is putting together a litter league from September to November. Across there parks and such. They are making it a competition, the team with the most bags collected can win a prize. We can pick our times it's an easy way to help out Thompson. Looking for a few to form a team.
Tackle the Trail- Looking to support this great cause. Looking for volunteers and there is a lot of flexibility in times.
Committee Reports:
Amanda reported the 100th Anniversary Committee met last week and they plan to add another sub committee to handle the Historical matters, opening time capsule and perhaps working with the local Historical Society
Memory Lane-
Doug Porter shared the he joined when Jason Howe was the President and it was during his 2nd or 3rd week put him in charge of the Vocational Service Award Night. It was a good event. And not at the trailer. He feels that it is super important to get folks involved right away to get to know what Rotary does.
