Program speaker and Rotaract President - Megan Berkery
President's Report:  Doug reported that the club assembly went well last week although the meeting ran longer than expected. 
 
Next week, we will be joined by the Plainfield and Killingly/Brooklyn Rotary Club members as our Program will be District Governor - Vincent Marinaro.
 
Thank you to Richard and Linda for their stories and photos from Scholarship Night.
 
Roberta was presented with a check for $750 for Interact.
 
We will be having our Board meeting after today's regular meeting.
 
 
Secretary's Report:  No report but Martha asked that club members go to the links for greeter and click on the link above to sign up.  Need to fill lots of spaces on the signup sheet.
 
Committee Reports:
 
Interact:  The Interact Club is once again selling Daffodils for their Relay for Life Team.  Orders must be in by Tuesday, Feb. 18th and flowers will arrive the week of March 17th.  Please make checks payable to American Cancer Society.  You can also call or text Roberta if you want to place an order. 
 
Cleaning your closets out?   The Relay for Life Team is also collecting good used clothing, linens and shoes for their Savers Fundraiser.  Please put in the white garbage bags, but hold on to them until after the weather gets better, then you can put them in Roberta's cabana.  Deadline for collection is April 10th.
 
Roberta thanked Rotary for the $750 donation to Interact and she says she will be using part of that money for the ice carving for Fire and Ice.   Interact members will be there, and also will be collecting donations during the festival.
 
Also, on Friday, January 24th, there will be the Bell Ringer Pizza Party at 6 pm at St. Marys.   If you volunteered, please feel free to attend. 
 
Scholarship Committee: Rachel reported that the Scholarship Committee will be reviewing this year's application and sending it over to the schools   There will be a March 31 deadline for the submission of applications.
 
Golf Tournament Committee:  Shawn reported that the golf tournament committee will be meeting in early February.  The save the dates have been emailed out and the tournament will be held on Friday, May 31st.    He is looking for more volunteers for the committee.  If you are interested, please contact Shawn.
Program
Megan Berkery, Rotaract President, was today's speaker.   She spoke about the upcoming Trivia Night, Feb. 1st from 6-8pm at the Thompson Speedway.  It is a Valentine's theme - movies, love songs and candy, to name a few trivia topics.  Raffles, cash bar, food, costume contest for best team spirit, prizes. Looking for sponsors as well as Teams of 8 people.  $80 per team, Register by January 31st.

Linda won the raffle but did not draw the 6 Diamonds.  She donated her $10.00 to the Archambault fund.
 
Jeff won the cookies!!!!

Scott served as our Sergeant at Arms.

Roberta is happy that Megan joined us for today's program and for Michael buying her cooking items so she could become "pasta queen" in her house.
 
Martha is thrilled that she was able to successfully remove a popcorn ceiling this weekend.
 
Bob, in good faith, paid his fine for having no badge.
 
Linda donated Piano to Westview, and while wanting to remain anonymous, received a press release about herself.
 
Jenn B. announced that she only had 20 tickets left for the 2nd Annual Celebrity Comedy Show on Friday at the Bradley.
 
Rachel announced that there would be a program on Monday at 11 for MLK Day, at the Living Faith Methodist Church.  $10 at door.
 
Amanda had a staff part on Friday at Hale Y and was happy that there were no photos for Scott to share.
 
Kathy is happy that she finally got an assistant at work and she's 1/2 way thru writing her book "What to do when you get bad news" with a goal of finishing by the end of January.

The Four-Way Test

The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages, and Rotarians recite it at club meetings: Of the things we think, say or do

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

These principles have been developed over the years to provide Rotarians with a strong, common purpose and direction. They serve as a foundation for our relationships with each other and the action we take in the world.
