The Rotary Clubs of Terra Linda and San Rafael Evening are sponsoring this Rotaplast mission to Apartado, Colombia. We will perform life-saving corrective surgeries on over 100 patients, making each surgery cost less than $1,000. The team consists of 16 medical professionals, and 11 non-medical volunteers. Each gives up 2 weeks of their lives without pay to make these enormous differences in lives where there is no other option.

Repair of a cleft lip or palate is one of the most awesome, life-changing gifts that a child or a family can receive. Without repair, a child with a cleft is doomed to shame, isolation, and closed doors throughout his or her life. These corrective surgeries represent the difference between a normal life and a life of ostracism and life-threatening health issues.

As of February, 52 patients, mostly children, have been screened, and by the end of March there will be another 80 patients ready to travel to Apartado for surgery. Joining the Rotaplast medical team will be at least two Colombian surgeons.  Local Social Services will do follow-ups with patients including tracking those that need additional surgeries.

FundaUniban, a group of agricultural growers, will help with transportation, housing, and meals for patients and families. A local Colombian Rotary Club, Deana Ortiz, will be helping with logistics.
