DESCRIPTION:This will be the second year for our “Summer Packs” Project
\, a joint venture between the Rotary Club of New Orleans and First Grace
United Methodist Church. Our Goal – Providing nourishment to 36 students
who receive meal assistance during the school year.  These children will
be identified by First Grace and neighborhood grade schools. Project Time
Line – During summer break for Orleans Parish Schools\, May 24th – Au
 gust 2rd (11 weeks total) - *Each Thursday from 4:00 – 6:00PM. Backpacks
will be distributed on Thursday\, May 24th at the church.  Each Thursday
\, during the project\, the packs will be refilled with various food items
for the upcoming week.  The focus will be on nutrition and therefore fre
sh and healthy items will be emphasized. Perishable Items will be purchase
d on a weekly basis.  These will include fresh fruits and vegetables (app
 les\, bananas\, oranges\, carrots\, etc.)\, as well as juice\, milk\, brea
 d (flat)\, yogurt\, cheese and other sandwich food. Non-Perishable Items w
ill be distributed as needed.  These include some of the following:  pea
 nut butter\, jelly\, granola bars\, raisins\, nuts\, soup cups\, mac & che
ese cups\, cereal\, crackers\, etc. *Rotary Volunteers will be needed each
Thursday at First Grace to help sort food items (beginning at 2:30PM)\, t
hen to assist in the distribution to children from 4:00 – 6PM.  Ideally
\, we would like to have 3 Rotarians each Thursday for both the sorting an
d distribution periods.  There will also be a need for volunteers to help
with delivering and storing food items at the church on a periodic basis.
*Monetary Donations of any amount will be appreciated\, either Individual
or Corporate.  Please give any funds to Tara with a notation for this pr
oject. Anyone wishing to participate in this beneficial project\, whether
at the church on distribution days or with transportation of food items sh
ould sign up through the Volunteer portal on the Club Runner.  Hopefully
we will have a fair number of volunteers\, so we can spread different Rota
rians across the 11 week period. If there are any questions or comments\,
please do not hesitate to contact me. Rotary Regards\, Mary L. Bonfanti ml
