Celebrating 60 Years of Community Service, the Rotary Club of Ladner (founded in 1957) held a birthday dinner party on September 23, 2017. To honour the occasion the club made a “gift” to the community, of Ladner and Delta, with the $600,000 Ladner Rotary Splash Park, in partnership with the Corporation of Delta. Construction of the splash park began officially with a sod turning ceremony in Memorial Park on September 21, 2017 with opening scheduled for May 2018. -- photos by Chris Offer
Rotary District 5040 Governor Don Evans, with Deb Sankey, brought congratulations from the District and Rotary International. Past District Governor Garry Shearer brought congratulations and a large birthday card signed by members of the Rotary Club of Tsawwassen, an “offspring” of Ladner Rotary 25 years ago. Greetings also came from our sister clubs, of Temuco Norte, Chile, and Mount Maunganui, New Zealand.
Eighty people participated in the dinner of recognition, nostalgia and fun, organized by Denis Denischuk and committee, MC’d by Lindsay Eldridge, decorated by Sonia Baron and Sandra O’Keeffe, and presented, in 20-year eras, by the club “don” of 53 years, Dr. Arthur Birk, Past District Governor Michael Cruise and Rev. Dr. Graham Witcher. The band, A Perfect Alibi, had many up dancing after dinner.
