District Governor visits on World Polio Day
Rotary District 5040 Governor Don Evans, with partner Deb Sankey, and Assistant Governor Wayne Connorton, made his annual visit to the Rotary Club of Ladner on October 24, coinciding with World Polio Day.
 
To mark World Polio Day on October 24, club members had their pinkie finger nails painted purple, an indicator in polio vaccine campaigns overseas that a child has received the vaccine

Tasting the Philippines with singing and dancing
To raise funds for the 49th and newest club in Rotary District 5040, the largely Filipino Rotary Club of Vancouver Mountainview, for Rotary's global campaign to End Polio Now and for the Rotary Club of Ladner's campaign with other clubs to fund a $45,000 water delivery project over 6.5 kms in the remote village of Ban Xiengdu in Northern Laos, 130 Rotarians, family and friends participated in "A Taste of the Philippines" dinner on October 14, 2017 in Richmond, BC.

Delta Mayor Lois Jackson, on behalf of the Corporation of Delta, congratulates the Rotary Club of Ladner on its 60th Anniversary.
Delta children and youth to benefit from 2018 calendar lottery sales
Children and Youth in Ladner and Delta are the cause of proceeds from the sale of 2018 Rotary calendars and lottery. Rotarians are once again selling the calendars throughout South Delta with 100% of proceeds going to community service projects.
 
Rotarians Walt Hayward and Elena Murgoci, at Save On Foods in Ladner on September 30, were one of the teams which started selling calendars in South Delta this Fall

Richard Shantz, now retired from the securities field, recently joined the Rotary Club of Ladner. He is a 34-year member of Rotary who recently moved to Ladner from Ottawa.

Community strength, generosity through Delta Foundation
With assets of more than $1.3 million and growing, the Delta Foundation awards $35,000 in grants every year to charitable service organizations and scholarships and bursaries to graduating students.
 
In recent years Kin Village seniors' residence has received $25,000 through the Delta Foundation for various projects, including a bus for outings

Economic and Community Development is one of the six global service themes of Rotary -- the focus for October. Rotary Club of Ladner's engagement in Adopt A Village Laos is just one example of that theme in practice throughout the world.

► 70% of the world’s poorest people live in rural areas and depend on agriculture and related activities for their livelihood

Black Bond Books serves Ladner and area
Black Bond Books runs book stores at 10 Lower Mainland locations, including two Book Warehouse stores in Vancouver, and the one in Trenant Park Mall in Ladner. Manager of the Ladner store, Holly Morgan, told members about the following of many for hand held books, despite the advent of digital versions in recent years.
