New BBQs add more family fun to Memorial Park
Expanding the recreational enjoyment of Delta residents even further at Memorial Park in Ladner, after the official opening of the Ladner Rotary Splash Park in July 2018, the Rotary Club of Ladner and the City of Delta have collaborated once again by installing nearby three outdoor cooking grills and renovating the adjacent gazebo. -- photos by Chris Offer and Peter Roaf
Firehall field trip for Ladner Rotarians
From the $2 million ladder truck and various other vehicles, to the dispatch system and living accommodations, Delta's Firehall 1, in Ladner and three firefighters hosted Ladner Rotary members on a field trip on September 24, 2019. The Rotary visitors not only learned about the various functions of the firehall, but about the fire and rescue system throughout Delta, including the new hall near Boundary Bay Airport and the top quality training facilities at that location.
Rotary District 5040 2nd highest per capita in giving to End Polio
Among the 34 Rotary Districts across Canada, Northeastern United States and Bermuda, in Zones 24 and 32, representing 1,814 clubs, our District 5040 of 50 clubs was second highest per capita in giving to the campaign to End Polio worldwide at almost US$105,473. With 50 members Ladner Rotary comprises 3.3% of membership in District 5040, but our giving US$3,880 to this campaign in 2018-19 represented 4.6% of the total for District 5040. Congratulations and thank you to our generous members in our club and our District.

Never stop learning: ElderCollege
The 45 or so ElderCollege courses offered in spring and fall semesters are short and stimulating with no pressure and no exams. Paulette Tattersall, Program Coordinator, explains that ElderCollege Delta is a volunteer organization dedicated to enhancing life long learning and personal growth through a relaxed approach where no prior experience is necessary.
Opening minds and enabling dreams: read, learn and play at your local public library
Ozobots are pocket-sized coding robots that come with infinite ways to play, create and share. These little robots offer a great introduction to coding, computational thinking and digital exploration then more challenging types of coding. Ozobots are just one of the learning features offered through the Fraser Valley Regional Library, the largest public library system in BC. Established in 1930, the library system serves 700,000 people through 25 libraries in 14 communities from Delta, with the Ladner Pioneer, George Mackie and Tsawwassen Libraries, to Agassiz, Boston Bar and Yale.
