Rotary Youth Exchange is the opportunity of a lifetime for the more than 8,000 students who participate each year all over the world. A high school student from a local sponsoring Rotary club will spend the school year under the care of a sponsoring club of another country in each case. The aim is for each student on exchange to share her or his own culture while embracing a new one, help foster global understanding and, in the process, learn a great deal about them self and their country in the process.
Josh comes from a community in the centre of Germany, where he will be returning at the end of the school year | Youth Exchange Students each carried the flag of his or her home nation at the opening ceremonies of the Rotary District 5040 conference May 4 to 7, 2017, in Whistler, BC, but here Josh carried the flag of the United Nations | Rotary Ladner Past President Peter Roaf thanked Josh for his presentation and congratulated him on his year in our District |
Based on a small-scale European program started in 1929 by the Rotary Club of Copenhagen, Rotary International (RI) endorsed the Youth Exchange program in 1972 to clubs world wide as a “worthwhile international activity”. Now more than 80 countries and 8,000 students participate in the program every year.
