“What would Granny want?” With that mantra top of mind, Rhonda Doram left 20 years of corporate life to found and develop her successful HoneyDo Lifestyle Assistant business in Delta.

Not only Granny’s needs, but her standards, have driven Rhonda and her team in what they do to serve the home support needs of seniors, but how they do it.

The company won the top award at Rotary’s 5th Annual Business Ethics Awards, as a model of ethical business practice, at a dinner and ceremony on February 19, at the Delta Town and Country Inn, sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Ladner, North Delta and Tsawwassen, and the Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) Enactus business student chapter.

Three other Delta companies were also recognized as good models of ethical business practice: 505-Junk, Komal’s Kreations and Choices.

The owners of 505-Junk described the challenge of working out how they could equip their trucks to pick up junk and weigh the load on the truck so they would charge the customer more accurately than simply by volume. Their business also focuses on recycling as much as possible from the junk they pick up.

Delta South MLA Vicki Huntington was on hand with Delta North MLA Scott Hamilton and both spoke highly of the importance of ethical business practice and the value of the link in this program to the university business students. Ms. Huntington, as guest speaker, gave first hand examples of ethical behaviour in business as well as government, and, in some cases, the lack of it.
