Rotary Club of Ladner looked back on the 2019-20 year, with the theme, “Rotary Connects the World,” and looked forward to 2021-22 with the election of its new board of directors at the club's Annual General Meeting on December 1, 2020. In the past Rotary year, club President Bridget Jacob and the Board of Directors encouraged greater connections between club members, our local communities and Rotarians around the world. The year of connections then evolved into the year of the pandemic necessitating a complete reimagining of how Rotarians, People of Action, could in fact “connect”.  As we Rotarians rose to the challenge and, despite the pandemic restrictions, by the end of the Rotary year our club was able to achieve the Gold level international Presidential Citation and special recognition for our Polio contributions.

During 2019-20 Ladner Rotary:
  • partnered once again with the City of Delta and installed three new barbecues near Ladner Rotary Splash Park, in Ladner’s Memorial Park;
  • held our Summer picnic and Christmas banquet for the South Delta Peer Support Group for special needs adults;
  • set up Christmas lights at Delta Hospital;
  • cleaned up Arthur Drive during the year;
  • organized a parade in support of our local hospital workers;
  • held a Pumpkins for Polio fundraising event;
  • helped load a container of used medical and educational supplies for the island of Panglao in the Philippines;
  • partnered with the Rotary Club of Richmond Sunrise to bring to two high schools in the Philippines a “world of learning in a portable hard drive”, Asian Ruggedized Education System (ARES) of a server box, 10 chromebooks, a speaker and a projector for each, and installed three elementary school libraries;
  • once again supported Adopt-A-Village Laos to bring water filters and education supplies and facilities to remote villages in the impoverished nation of Laos;
  • created a new category of Corporate membership allowing up to three members of an organization to join and welcomed employees of Village Farms and Pure Sun Farms.
