Rotary Peace Fellowship
 Recruitment Process

Overview
 
The Rotary Peace Fellowship supports Rotary's mission to empower, educate, and increase the capacity of peace builders through rigorous academic training, practice, and global networking opportunities. The fellowship is intended for persons who have chosen a career related to international relations, peace, and conflict resolution; who have work experience in these areas; and who have a commitment to community or international humanitarian service and working for peace. Two types of fellowships are offered: a master's degree program and professional development certificate program. Up to 50 fellowships are available for each type. There is no restriction on the number of applications which can come from an individual District.
 
The following are not eligible for master’s degree fellowships.
  • Active and honorary Rotarians
  • Employees of a Rotary club, Rotary district, Rotary International, or other Rotary entity
  • Spouses, lineal descendants (children or grandchildren by blood or legal adoption), spouses of lineal descendants, or ancestors (parents or grandparents by blood) of any living person in the categories above
  • Former Rotarians and their relatives as described above (within 36 months of resignation)
 
Time Lines
Applications for Masters program July 2015.
Applications for Certificate program January and June 2015.
 
Proposed Process
 
  1. Club endorsement of a candidate is necessary for District approval of an application.
  2. Clubs can only endorse one candidate. The District may choose to approve more than one candidate.
  3. Information on fellowships distributed to clubs and universities in the District by September 15, 2014. As part of this, clubs and club members will be encouraged to consider whether they know someone who should be encouraged to apply.
  4. Assistant Governors asked to encourage club presidents to participate in recruiting for the fellowships.
  5. Sub-Committee Chair and Foundation Chair will develop and distribute a set of criteria for clubs and district to use to evaluate/approve potential applicants by September 15, 2014.
  6. Proposed District deadlines:
    1. Applications for January Certificate November 15, 2014.
    2. Applications June Certificate, April 15, 2014.
    3. Applications for Masters degree, May 15, 2015.
  7. Sub-committee chair will work with clubs, universities and individual applicants to process applications.
  8. Sub-committee chair and Foundation chair will submit applications that have met the criteria to the District Board of Directors for approval at least one month prior to RI’s deadlines.
