Guest Speaker: James McGuire

The Jerry L. Johns Literacy Clinic at Northern Illinois University is a participant in a nationwide effort to give people of all ages the opportunity to read...through the Little Free Libraries project.

James "Twigz" McGuire is Outreach Coordinator for the clinic; he says they use refurbished newspaper boxes donated by The Daily Chronicle as mini-library sites. Users can take any books inside, at no charge; they are encouraged to read, and then keep or return each book. The boxes are restocked on a regular basis.

McGuire says many people are unable to get to their regular library, so for them the opportunity to have one close to home is invaluable. He says children are especially interested in reading; many of the books they provide are aimed at children, and they are usually snapped up as quickly as they're put into place.

The Clinic accepts donations of books and money, and is looking for locations around Sycamore as they seek to expand their operations. For more information, you can go to this link.
