Making a Difference

The Rotary Club of Sycamore is always looking to add to our 70+ members. Your membership makes you a part of the more than 1.2 million Rotarians worldwide. As probably the first professional social networking organization in the world, we focus on bringing together community-focused individuals with an interest to network, mentor, and serve locally or globally.

Requirements

Membership does carry some requirements that prospective members should be aware of.

Dues
Membership in the Rotary Club of Sycamore requires the payment of annual dues which cover, among other things, membership in Rotary International, weekly catered meals, and other budgetary expenses related to club operations. For the 2016 fiscal year, dues are set at $165 / quarter, or about $13 per week. Some additional events take place throughout the year which may require additional cost for participation.

Fines
Rotary club have a playful tradition of fining member for a variety of noteworthy action. What are fines? They are small, voluntary donations to our club's scholarship fund. Typically members are access to contribute $2-3 each week as assessed by the fine master, usually through participation in a round of trivia or a physical challenge. Fines are not strictly enforced, but participation is encouraged so that the club can continue to provide scholarships to Sycamore High School seniors.

Attendance
Meetings are held almost every Wednesday, barring some exclusions when meetings fall on a major holiday. While no strict attendance requirement exists, members should strive to attend more than 50% of meetings. Note that membership dues include the cost of lunch, regardless of member attendance. Members who are unable to attend the regular meeting are encouraged to make up that meeting through one of many online clubs or through another local club.

The Process

Prospective members are welcome to any regular meeting and no formal invitation is required. Any one of our friendly members will be happy to introduce you to the club and answer any questions you may have. As a courtesy to the club and the speaker, guests and members are asked to arrive promptly and avoid leaving prior to the close of the meeting at 1:00 PM. As a part of your guest visit, you will be introduced to the club, provided with lunch, and be treated to our weekly program and speaker.

Should you decide to join, a member will be assigned to you as a sponsor and they will help you through the application process, answering any questions you may have.
