Club President Steve Wilder introduces Grand Victorian staff members (left to right) Jackie Romero, Lindsey Signorella, and Julyne Kenney who hosted this week’s meeting at their independent and assisted living facility in Sycamore. The staff provided tours to club members ahead of a luncheon where details about services offered at the older adult community were given and a question and answer session was held.

Rotarians got to see room layouts plus common areas for events and residents’ personal time.
Sycamore Rotarians toured the Grand Victorian Independent and Assisted Living complex on Somonauk Street for this week’s meeting. Staff explained the facility offers a maintenance-free lifestyle with assisted services allowing independent living. Restaurant-style meals are served three times a day, there is weekly housekeeping and laundry service, and a variety of events, crafts, and game activities. There are nursing assessments, and assistance is offered for bathing, dressing, walking, personal grooming, and hygiene.
There is an upfront charge of $3,000 to join the Grand Victorian community. Residents must be 55 years of age or older. The facility is pet friendly. There are studio and one bedroom apartment options. Each unit has a full, private bath; kitchenette with sink; refrigerator and microwave; and individually controlled heating and air conditioning systems. June 12, 1924 – 41st U.S. President George H. W. Bush is born in Milton, Massachusetts. Prior to assuming the presidency in 1989, Bush served as Vice President under Ronald Reagan and the Director of the CIA under Gerald Ford.
June 13, 1903 – “The Galloping Ghost”, Harold “Red” Grange, is born in Forksville, Pennsylvania. The University of Illinois star earned his nickname after a memorable game against Michigan where he returned the opening kickoff for a 95-yard touchdown, scored three more touchdowns in the first 12 minutes, scored a fifth touchdown in the second half, threw a touchdown pass, and made two interceptions while playing defense. After college he played professionally for the Chicago Bears helping legitimize the National Football League.
June 14, 1906 – Photojournalist Margaret Bourke-White was born in New York City. She becomes one of four original staff photographers of LIFE Magazine in 1936 and later the first woman to be an accredited war correspondent during World War II.
