On Tuesday, July 21, new Rotaract Club of Sycamore President Madeline DeVito and President-Elect Trenton DeVito hosted the club's inaugural Open House kick-off event at Fatty's Pub & Grill in DeKalb. 6 Rotary Club "ambassadors" and 14 interested visitors attended the event, which has so far resulted in 5 completed applications. The club will hold regular meetings on the first and third Tuesday of each month from 6:00-7:00 PM at Fatty's, with the first meeting taking place on August 4 and featuring Sycamore Mayor (and Rotary Club member) Curt Lang as their speaker. Meetings will involve food, fellowship, guest speakers, and service project planning. The club will be focused on Sycamore (as indicated by its name), but open to any young professionals in the area.
10,904 Rotaract clubs currently operate in 184 countries and have a worldwide membership of 250,792. Following the same "Service Above Self" mantra as Rotary clubs and members, Rotaract clubs are intended for college students and early-career professionals and provides an opportunity for them to be empowered, develop essential skills, and participate in a multitude of leadership opportunities at varying levels.Club members must commit to 20 service hours per year and attend 60% of meetings. Annual dues are $120 (though, in the case of the Rotaract Club of Sycamore, the Rotary Club of Sycamore is sponsoring dues for the first year).
