High School Student of the Month Rayna White says she wants her words and actions to reflect her faith as she goes about her daily tasks.  White spoke about leadership, fellowship, and making a difference during her presentation.  Her academic achievements include being an Illinois State Scholar, member of the National Honor Society, and taking advance placement coursework for credit in World History, English, and Composition.  She has played both basketball and tennis and was named an academic all-star in both sports.    She is president of the school’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  White sings in both the school choir and the jazz choir.  Active in her church, White was part of a mission trip to Ostrava, in the Czech Republic.  She said, “ministry work is part of what I do.”  White will be donating her Rotary check to the Goodfellows charity where she has been a volunteer since childhood.   

Revitalizing a northwest DeKalb neighborhood is the goal of “Opportunity DeKalb” according to Executive Director Chad Glover, who was this week’s keynote speaker at Rotary.  Opportunity DeKalb is a non-profit economic development organization whose aim is to renew business and social activity in the North Annie Glidden Road neighborhood.  Glover explained that a key part of that effort is the “Fun Jam in the Park” events at Welsh Park (and other parks) held throughout the summer.
