This year's Hula for Loota was held at St. Mary's Parish Activity Center. This event raised thousands of dollars for Sycamore High School seniors continuing their education!
Hula Master Paulette Renault led a successful 2023 Hula for Loota event with help from Hula Team members Paul Callighan, Jeff Jacobson, and Tim Neubert...and many others!
We had many great contestants for the Best Shirt Contest, but Paul Barnaby was ultimately determined to be the winner based on a sophisticated "applausameter" approach.
Earlier in the evening, Rob Mondi presented "the spoon" to the club's newest member, Alicia Cosky. Be sure to ask Alicia to show you the spoon when you next see her! ;-)
As with Happy Dollars and fines, 50/50 raffle proceeds have long been earmarked for the scholarship fund for Sycamore High School seniors. In an effort to "spread the wealth" and support more causes, the members of your Rotary Board have determined that 50/50 raffle proceeds collected each month will benefit a different cause.
For the month of June, 50/50 raffle proceeds will help support CASA DeKalb County, Inc. to advocate for and serve as the voice for children who have experienced abuse or neglect in DeKalb County. The Board has committed that the total amount given to this cause will be no less than $250.

May 1, 1960 – American U-2 spy plane pilot Francis Gary Powers was shot down over central Russia.
May 5, 1862 – Mexican troops under General Ignacio Zaragoza, outnumbered three to one, defeat the invading forces of Napoleon III in the battle of Pueblo which forever after is celebrated as a national holiday; Cinco de Mayo (Fifth of May).
May 5, 1961 – Alan Shepard becomes the first American in Space. His Freedom 7 spacecraft travelled in space for 15 minutes and 28 seconds. In a subsequent flight in 1971 he would become the fifth person to walk on the moon.
May 6, 1937 – The German airship Hindenburg bursts into flames and crashes while mooring at Lakehurst, New Jersey killing 36 of the 97 passengers and crew and effectively ending commercial airship travel.
