For this week's program, Rotary Club members created Christmas ornaments at our Blumen Gardens meeting space to be hung on our Christmas tree located at the Sycamore Park District for the local competition among nonprofit organizations.
Greetings fellow Rotarians! I hope you all had a relaxing Thanksgiving with family and friends.
My partner, Stephen Hansen, has put together a google sheet to sign up for Salvation Army Bell Ringing at the Jewel on Peace Road here in Sycamore. You can click on this link and type in your name. Please do not type over anyone else's name or do any further editing.
Bell ringing will take place on Saturday, December 11 from 10:00-6:00 at both doors. Therefore, there are two slots for each time. One is for the right door, and the other is for the left door. Please consider signing up for one of the slots and living our Rotary motto of "Service Above Self" for this great cause.
Please bring a wrapped item (approx. $15 in value) for a gift exchange.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The next regular meeting will be Wednesday, January 5. Our speakers will be Dr. Laurie Borowicz, President of Kishwaukee College, and our January Student of the Month.
Sam Crutcher is a very accomplished young man. His long resume (in only his 17th year) features a current GPA of 4.66, completion of AP courses galore, service as Drum Major, and being named to All-State Band for trombone. He is also performing an internship with the deputy clerk at the DeKalb County Circuit Clerk's office.
He plans to attend University of Michigan or the University of Illinois and major in Political Science. Sam then hopes to attend and complete law school.
When considering his success (and the success of other top students), Sam believes perseverance is critical. He also believes students' mental health is extremely important to their level of success. "Striving for success takes a toll on mental health", Sam said. He also shared that he believes "Sycamore is the best community in the state." We'd have to agree with you, Sam! It's a pretty special place!
After much consideration, Sam chose to donate the $100 received from Rotary Club to Opportunity House.
Donations are currently being requested for the Sycamore Food Pantry. Bring a bottle of laundry detergent...or $10 for Julie Sgarlata to purchase one. Money is easier to handle.
Personal hygiene items (bar soap, shampoo, etc.) are also being sought.
