A very suave couple (identities unknown) attended Saturday's fundraising event. Will we ever see them again?
What a spread! The charcuterie table at the event was full of tasty options.
The February Rotarian Student of the Month is Javier Lopez. He is passionately pursuing a career as a pilot and even has his private pilot’s license, but he told Rotarians an even higher passion he has is his pursuit of learning and sharing his Christian beliefs. At school, Lopez is in the Business Leadership Academy, a Business Club Member, a member of the National Honor Society, and was trained on flight simulators through the Kishwaukee Education Consortium. He is captain of the school soccer team, plays club soccer, and has played school tennis as well. Outside of school, he is a member of four Experimental Aircraft Association Chapters and is a cook at the Italian Dreams Restaurant. Lopez says he was brought up in the Catholic church but experienced a “radical encounter” with Christianity a year ago. He now pursues small group meetings to build on his faith and opportunities to put his faith into action. He is active with the First Baptist Church Youth Group and is a youth club leader. For Lopez, being a Christian is not something that is moderately important, he views it as a calling of main importance. He will be donating his Rotary non-profit gift to the First Baptist Church Youth Fund. Lopez plans to continue his aviation interest after graduation by attending a career-focused program at Iowa Lakes College.
Flawless Touch Salon owner Kelly Meyers gives an overview of her new business and its services. Meyers is the wife of Rotarian Phil Meyers and opened her very own business in May of last year after extensive experience in the beauty and spa field working for others.
Kelly Meyers grew up in Sycamore and was employed in the beauty and spa field by others until recently taking the big step to open her own business called “The Flawless Touch Salon.” Meyers says her journey from hair stylist to spa owner came about with the support of her husband, Rotarian Phil Meyers, and her Mom (who serves as her accountant). The Flawless Touch Salon is located at 2525 Bethany Road. The site was previously a hair salon, but Meyers says it has been totally remodeled to reflect her tastes. She says it now has more of an art-deco appearance. Meyers says her passion is to make people feel their best as they look their best.
Meyers and her three employees offer a full range of beauty treatment services. She said she has been gratified with the many positive comments received from customers. Meyers added that she is even doing a makeover of her husband’s hair style.
Meyers said the biggest change for her in becoming an owner-operator is in delegating work. She said that is what is making the business fit her work-life balance with her three children. Full details about her business may be found at her website: www.flawlesstouchsycamore.com.
