“Imagine, a world that deserves our best where we get up each day knowing that we can make a difference.” - RI President-elect Jennifer Jones said, when announcing her presidential theme for 2022-2023.
The theme logo was designed by renowned Australia-based Indigenous artist Riki Salam to represent RI President Jones’ theme and initiatives. The logo represents key elements of Rotary while honoring the Indigenous culture:
• The circle signifies connections to one another.
• The dots around the circle represent people, one for each of our areas of focus.
• The circle and the dots together become a navigation star, which signifies Rotary’s guiding light.
• The solid line underneath signifies a digging stick used for hard work — a tool that Rotary’s people of action use to get things done.
New Club President Tim Neubert presided over his first meeting this week. Tim is thankful for the opportunity to serve the club in this way, but also thankful to have this first meeting "under his belt".
District and Club Rotary Foundation Committee Chair Paul Stromborg updated the club on donations to End Polio. New this past year was creation of the Polio Plus Society consisting of Rotarians pledging $100 a year to the Rotary effort to eradicate Polio. Stromborg said four members of Sycamore Rotary have made the pledge and he encouraged more club participation for 2022-2023. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation matches polio eradication donations 2 to 1. Total generated by contributions and these matches in District 6420 now totals over $1.37 million. Pakistan and Afghanistan are the last countries reporting active Polio cases. The world must go three years polio-free before it can be declared completely eradicated.
The first club meeting of the new Rotary year was held this week, with Tim Neubert presiding for the first time. Between the bell ringings (to call the meeting to order and then to dismiss club members), the meeting included:
Thanks to the efforts of all board members, Tim was pleased to announce that dues for members of the Rotary Club of Sycamore will remain unchanged (a small increase in dues for satellite club members ($2.50 per quarter) was also announced). Club leadership estimates that our dues income will total $41,937, which is expected all operational expenses, including dues payable to Rotary International and District 6420, meals and facility rental for our lunch meetings, fellowship activities, supplies, and various other "back office" costs.
Tim also announced that monthly committees and standing committees for the year should be sorted out by July 20, but that the August monthly committee has already been identified and begun planning speakers for next month. Tim thanked Jeff Keicher, Steve Kuhn, and Pat Shafer who are serving on the August committee!
