Being fit, both physically and mentally, was the focus of remarks at this week’s meeting by Sycamore Park District Superintendent of Recreation Lisa Metcalf. Metcalf challenged the thoughts and priorities of Rotarians through a series of trivia questions as she promoted a Self-Care Fair being held Saturday at the Park District Community Center from 9 AM to 2 PM. Metcalf said vendors will be on hand with resources to help you “unwind”. She said the end result is to find fun and inspiration while making self-care a part of your routine. As an incentive, the first 100 guests over 21 will enjoy a free mimosa to get in the mood of relaxation and learning.
Metcalf is a graduate of the University of Iowa and spent ten years in therapeutic recreation work before coming to Sycamore in 2011. She has helped promote and expand various activities that are part of the District’s Community Center programming. That includes the expanding interest in Pickleball for older adults. When wrapping up her presentation, Metcalf included a trivia answer repeating an often-given phrase that “laughter is the best medicine.” For full information on facilities and programs from the Sycamore Park District, visit their website at www.sycparks.org.
