Make A Difference DKC 2015 packs over 1 million meals

 

Volunteers at this weekend’s packing event for Feed My Starving Children easily cleared the 1 million meal mark.

 

Organizers of the Make A Difference DKC MobilePack event say over 5-thousand volunteers helped pack over 1-million-29-thousand meals during the course of the four-day event; this makes Sycamore one of the largest MobilePack events in the United States.

 

As part of this year’s fundraising effort, a $10,000 cash raffle was conducted…and an NIU student working two jobs while in college won the grand prize.  Rachel Boyd of DeKalb is a graduate student at Northern Illinois, and helped sell tickets for the student organization Huskies Alternative Breaks.  Her winning ticket was the only one she bought.

 

Proceeds from the raffle tickets will be shared with a number of charitable and service organizations around DeKalb County, which helped with ticket sales.

 

Rotarian Heidi Wright says there was participation from the Sycamore, Kishwaukee Sunrise and DeKalb Rotary Clubs, the Sycamore H.S. and Middle School Interact Clubs, the EarlyAct Clubs from North Grove and South Prairie and the NIU Rotaract Club. 

 

Counting ticket sales, the Sycamore Rotary Club has contributed over $7,500 to the event; it will get over $2,000 back from its share of the raffle ticket sales.
