Guest Speaker:  Renee McGuan

Renee McGuan's husband Joe was one of the driving forces behind bringing The Wall That Heals to DeKalb County, and she is continuing the effort in his name.

This traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was brought to the county in 1997 and 2007; it's scheduled to return to Sycamore Park from July 13-16, and veterans organizations are joining with other local groups and residents to prepare for its arrival.

Renee says her husband never spoke about his time in Vietnam; but when they first saw the original memorial in Washington, DC in the early 1990's, he was moved to tears at the sight.

Joe later died of medical complications, directly related to his time in Vietnam; later this year, she will be returning to Washington to help with the dedication of a virtual memorial in honor of those who returned stateside, but died later as a result of their service.
