Kevin Poorten says there has been much misinformation concerning Northwestern Medicine/Kishwaukee Hospital's planned fitness center -- and he says it has different objectives than those of the adjacent Kishwaukee YMCA, whom the organization regards as an ally in its efforts.

Poorten outlined plans for the $46 million Wellness Center, now under construction on the northwest corner of the KCH campus. He says it will not just have a fitness element; it will integrate the workout and gymnasium areas with therapy and recovery programs offered by the hospital, tailored to helping patients with their post-medical treatment.

The center will also have hydrotherapy pools, physical therapists and additional medical offices...along with a conference center, and day care for users. While the primary focus is on patient treatment, Poorten says the general public will be able to utilize its services; memberships or as-needed usage tracks will be available.

Poorten also introduced Jay Anderson, who will be taking over his position as President of Kishwaukee Community Hospital as he moves into a new position with Northwestern Medicine.  Anderson will assume oversight of this project, and all of KCH's operations, beginning on May 1st.
