Guest Speaker: Courtney Dennison

Busy parents need a place for their children to stay during off hours in the school year, and in the summertime; and the Sycamore School District's OSCAR (Out of School Care) program not only gives students a place to go...but fills their time with work and activities, dedicated towards making it a learning epxerience.

 

Courtney Dennison is the District 427 coordinator for OSCAR; nearly 170 students are enrolled there this summer, and they spend their spare time on a wide variety of activities.  Students begin the day at their home school, and can be taken to the Park District pool or other facilities, or remain on campus for pre-planned events there.

 

The school district also arranges a number of field trips for them to go on; they utilize a number of community partners, including the Kishwaukee Y, Zumba Fitness and the Sycamore Park District, in the effort to find activities for their students.

 

During the school year, students can be dropped off early and stay late at their schools; the day begins at 7 o'clock, with early drop-off available at South Prairie Elementary starting at 6 a.m.  The day runs as late as six in the evening.  These services are available to parents at a charge; some families receive assistance through social service agencies.
