After nearly a quarter-century at Ideal Industries, Bed Swedberg decided to strike out in a new direction:  helping a Finland-based company which Ideal had worked with, in expanding its operations in the United States.

LEDiL provides lenses and other screening parts for LED light manufacturers; they develop these parts in conjunction with customers, and provide them for use in their commercial lighting systems.

Swedberg says many older-style lights are inefficient and wasteful; they spread their light in all directions, causing light pollution in populated areas and wasting energy.  He says LED lighting allows users to target the light towards the areas they want to illuminate, while reducing glare.

The companies they work with provide general light for a variety of commercial users; these can range from street lighting, to indoor decorative lights, to field lights for outdoor sports.  One of their biggest achievements is helping to provide nighttime illumination for the newly-constructed freeway leading from Rio de Janiero's airport to the downtown Olympic venues.

Joining Ben for his presentation was Rami Huovinen, CEO of LEDiL from their headquarters in Salo, Finland; he is a fellow Rotarian with the Aninkainen Rotary Club of Turku, Finland.  Huovinen (lower left) exchanged banners with Sycamore Rotary President Sue Emberson, presenting us with their unique free-standing banner.
