After spending nearly all of her life in Sycamore as part of the community, Marijo Schwartz -- at the urging of her friend and fellow Rotarian, Heidi Wright -- took the step of becoming a member of the Sycamore Rotary Club, and immediately jumped into working wherever she was needed.

Marijo is a special education teacher for the Sycamore School District, helping to classify students during early intervention and determining what special needs they may have.  Her husband is the owner of P.J.'s Courthouse Tavern; he and his business partner bought up the former Boone's Tavern in 1994 -- a move which concerned her at first, because of its dilapidated condition.  But with lots of work and restoration, they turned it into one of the most popular restaurants in town.

Marijo say she has spent time living in both DeKalb and Sycamore, but much prefers the latter because of all the people she knows and works with...a feeling of community, which is hard to find anywhere else.
