Rotary Club of Sycamore
About Our Club
The Sycamore Rotary Club is dedicated to following Rotary’s slogan of “Service Above Self,” as our Rotarians spend their time giving back through the community, and to the world at large, through service projects.
Some of the service initiatives we’ve taken on include:
-- Partnering with our sister Rotary Club in Chimoio, Mozambique to help drill for wells and provide fresh water to schools and villages in their region
-- Raising funds, and volunteering time to help pack meals, on behalf of the international hunger relief organization Feed My Starving Children
-- Reaching out to community organizations each spring during our annual Rotarians at Work Day, offering our services to assist local not-for-profit agencies with small yet vital tasks
-- Providing annual scholarships for students at Sycamore High School, with monies raised through our annual Pancake Breakfast during the Pumpkin Festival
-- Partnering with The Dictionary Project to provide dictionaries to all third grade students in Sycamore, for use during the school year and beyond
-- Helping to expose youth to the concept of service to the community and self-improvement through sponsorship of the Interact Clubs at Sycamore High School and Sycamore Middle School…and by sponsoring the EarlyAct Clubs at North Grove Elementary and South Prairie Elementary
-- Giving teens the opportunity to foster world peace and international understanding through our Short Term and Long Term Youth Exchanges
-- Providing teams the change to develop their leadership skills through the annual Rotary Youth Leadership Academy
-- Providing manpower each August for the Voluntary Action Center’s Meals on Wheels program
-- Helping those in need during the holiday season, by helping the Salvation Army’s kettle collection and our own Adopt-a-Family project
-- Ongoing support of the Rotary-backed international relief organization Shelter Box, which provides emergency shelter and supplies to disaster survivors around the world
-- Furthering Rotary’s efforts to promote polio vaccination around the world, through End Polio Now
-- Helping to bring attention to Sudden Unexplained Death in Children (SUDC) by sponsoring and participating in the inaugural “Answers for Emmett” 5K run/walk
-- And joining with our other area Rotary Clubs in a variety of fundraising projects to benefit the community
