Rachel Gander was honored as student of the month at Loves Park Rotary and was in attendance with her mother, Paula Gander, and counselor, Sandi Thies. Rachel is President of the National Honor Society, secretary of the student council, a member of the math team, Students for Action, WYSE and she also participated in the Chemistry Olympiad last year. She’s been swimming competitively for 12 years and has been on the girls varsity swim team for three years. Her passion for swimming has led her to volunteer in many different areas of life such as helping organize younger athletes at swim meets, blood drives at Harlem as well as helping at food banks such as at Harlem High School and Grace Lutheran Church. These experiences have made a profound impact on her life and left her some precious memories that help motivate her to volunteer in many other areas. Future plans for Rachel include a major in Materials Science and Engineering and she is considering Iowa State and Purdue.
