Tom Brooks and Dave Smith set up a skype visit with Kate Fabsik, our exchange student visiting the Czech Republic.  There is about an eight-hour time difference so it was evening when Kate was talking to us.  She is living in Prague which is very colorful and rich in history and she loves it.  She’s starting to learn the language a little better and says sometimes you just have to force yourself to “put yourself out there a little” past your comfort zone.  She visits the local Rotary about once a month and her host family has taken her on several trips to Rome (she had a hotel right by the Vatican), Spain and Slovakia.  Shortly, they plan on embarking on a Euro tour to France, Spain & Italy.  Kate is eating well and says they have a lot of meat and potatoes and dumplings.  She’s adjusting to the differences in school – the schedules are different each day but the same every week and some days she’s there from 8 or 8:30 am until 5 pm.  There are as many as 11 students overseas from our Rotary district.  Kate’s advice to future exchange students is to expect the unexpected and to keep an open mind because “this experience will change your life”.  Thanks, Kate, for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit with us and thanks to Tom & Dave for setting it up for us.
