We were visited by Loves Park Police Chief, Rodney Scott.  He was promoted to Deputy Chief a couple of years ago under Chief Puckett and Mayor Lindberg said he is proud to have a man of his caliber.  Chief Scott has two masters degrees and teaches at Northwestern University.  His department has 34 officers and three civilians and they receive over 23,000 calls for service a year.  They have a great record in the state, especially in the area of DUI enforcement.  Chief Scott worked with the Sheriff’s department to consolidate record management and saves the city over $13,000 per year and hopes to ultimately combine 911 service.  He is proud of their website which is www.lovesparkpolice.org and said social media is definitely an important tool in law enforcement (remember to go to their Facebook page and “LIKE” them.  Hot topics these days are body cameras and suspects fleeing arrest.  Chief Scott is especially pleased with their efforts to see that every day officers visit elementary schools in the area.  The children learn about safety and also learn to recognize and trust officers.  Thanks, Chief Scott, for an interesting and informative presentation!
