John Schuster, a fellow Rotarian (four years with Rockford East/Cherry Valley), visited us. He talked to us about Rosecrance where he has been CFO since 2011. Rosecrance has almost 800 employees and multiple campuses in Rockford and treated over 21,000 clients for mental health issues or substance abuse in fiscal year 2015. There is a huge need for their services in this area with over 100 heroin or opiate-related overdose deaths in Winnebago County in the last 18 months. They provide beds every night for almost 300 people and about 1,500 teens have been served in substance abuse programs (37% of their clients are 16 or younger). Of the more than 4,500 adults served, 59% are age 34 or younger. Rosecrance's Florian program is the only one in the nation to treat firefighters & EMT's for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD. Keep up the good work, John, and thank you for enlightening us on the really important work done by Rosecrance in our community.
