Ginger gave us some information about RYLA which stands for Rotary Youth Leadership Awards and she talked about their annual gathering in Oregon, IL at the Laredo Taft Campus which is in Lowden Park behind the famous statue of Blackhawk. There is no upper or lower age limit although she said most of the teens are freshman to seniors in high school. The kids learn leadership and team building skills. They start planning the event from October to May (it was held this year the first weekend in May) and they usually plan on from 90 to 125/year. They like to have four or five student counselors and the requirement is that they at least have to have attended a camp previously. Some districts pay for the kids and sometimes the attendees are asked to help pay for themselves. Thanks, Ginger, for helping us to know more about RYLA.
