Here are the highlights from our August 6th, 2019 meeting.
John Shankool from Morning Rotary Talks About Bay City Driathlon
John Shankool from the morning Rotary Club was our guest speaker this week. He shared information on the upcoming 9th Annual Bay City Driathlon competition which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 13th of this year.
The Dirathlon is a series of three different races: a 5K paddle (canoe or kayak), a 20K pedal (bike), and a 5K pound (run). The object of the event is to promote a healthy lifestyle. The approximate time it takes to complete each race is 2 hours.
This family orientated event is for people of all ages. According to John they've had people as young as 5 and up to 70+ years of age who participate.
Mike Bacigalupo, also from morning Rotary, was a guest as well and was helping John promote the Driathlon. Mike challenged President Tara Welch to participate in the event, and said if she did he would personally pay her admittance fee. Tara, who has participated in other races throughout the last couple of years, happily accepted Mike's challenge. She will be taking part in the 5K paddle race.
John emphasized the need for volunteers to help with the race. He said 50-60 volunteers are needed all throughout each race course to aid the athletes participating in the event.
Tara received a video from Rotary International via email which she shared with the club. The video highlights some of the many great achievements and wonderful work down by Rotary International.
Brenda Scramlin, this month's Sergeant at Arms, highly recommended downloading the Rotary Global Rewards app to your smart phones. The app allows Rotarians to explore Rotary Global Rewards to find discounts and special offers, along with opportunities to give back to Rotary.
Brenda said over the coarse of August she would share more about Rotary Global Rewards.
Volunteers are still needed for the ODRAM race, this Saturday August 10th. Anytime between 12pm-8pm. Please email Jeff Yantz if you are able to help. Please email him at jeffyantz@gmail.com
