WAS (World Affairs Seminar) At this time we have not made any firm decisions regarding the World Affairs Seminar event. We are, however, exploring a number of options. One option is offering an Online or Virtual Seminar. We are fortunate to have the talent and skills needed to make this happen. We are also discussing fiscal issues including the obligations we have to sponsors, and ways in which we can ensure WAS has the wherewithal to survive this most recent challenge.

Waukesha Food Pantry: From Karen Tredwell:
As Governor Evers has announced the 'Safer at Home' initiative, we anticipate that even more people will need the services of the FOOD Pantry Serving Waukesha County. Food pantries are still considered essential services; our continued goal
is to stay open while we have enough staff and volunteers. Should that change, we will notify you as soon as possible. One of the state agencies with whom we work has developed some protocols for food pantries during the COVID 19 pandemic.
I am proud to say that our agency is ahead of the curve and have employed the safe no-contact processes prior to receiving their info. In addition to providing food to 65 returning registered families today, we registered 12 new families. Since our monthly average of new registrant families is just over 50 families, this could be the beginning of a big increase in need. For anyone still considering helping, here is a little info about how the service area is set up: the area in which we are working in the warehouse is set up to observe the social distancing of 6 ft between people, gloves are plentiful as is hand soap and hand sanitizer. Carts are disinfected frequently with Clorox wipes. Volunteers are still needed, so if you would like to come join us, also contact Jess at Jessica@waukeshafoodpantry.org
ProHealth: From Natalie Glumm:
ProHealth Care is welcoming donations of masks and other personal protective equipment as well as hand sanitizer. "As we prepare to care for our patients and our community during this public health crisis, supplies of personal protective equipment are critically low in Wisconsin and around the country," said Mary Baker, ProHealth’s chief clinical operations officer. "Some of the products we need to protect our health care professionals also are used in other fields, and we would be grateful for donations at this time. "Donated products must be new, in unopened packaging. ProHealth Care is accepting donations of the following items:
Masks – Both N95 respirator and ear loop surgical masks. These masks are sometimes used in construction, painting, dentistry, veterinary medicine and school settings.
Eye protection – Goggles and safety glasses. These are used in a wide variety of industries as well as by woodworkers, hobbyists and painters.
Hand sanitizer – Hand sanitizers that contain at least 60% alcohol are most effective in preventing the spread of the coronavirus. Many individuals and businesses use these products.
Donations from the community may be dropped off at ProHealth Care’s administrative building at N17W24100 Riverwood Drive in Pewaukee, off Pewaukee Road just north of I-94. Donations can be left between the entrance and lobby doors between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Many in the community have asked about providing handsewn masks. While ProHealth’s caregivers greatly appreciate these offers, the organization is not accepting handsewn masks at this time. Guidelines for handsewn masks, including patterns and materials, are being developed. If ProHealth’s infectious disease specialists decide that handsewn masks would be effective and helpful, the organization will make a public appeal.

Current Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer Driver: Transport a senior or adult with a disability to an essential medical appointment. Clients are asked to sit in the backseat. Drivers can drop them off at the curb and wait in the car until the appointment is over, helping to limit exposure to illnesses.MarisaS@ErasWaukesha.org. If you are not yet an Eras volunteer, please fill out our online application found HERE.
Grocery or Medication Delivery: Help a senior or adult with a disability receive food or medication by picking it up and delivering it to their home. Volunteers are needed to grocery shop for a client (using the client’s shopping list and form of payment) in addition to picking up online grocery orders or food pantry stock boxes.
Wellness Check-In Phone Calls: Place a call to a current client of Eras to ensure they have what they need at home like food, medication, and other essentials. Not only does this call help someone meet their basic needs, but it’s a way to help reduce loneliness for those who are more isolated than ever now.
Spring Yard Clean Up: Volunteers are needed this spring (likely May) to clean the yards of seniors. We may experience a shortage of volunteers as college students usually helped with this event. Tasks include raking, cleaning outdoor windows, and clearing flower beds.
