PANCAKE FESTIVAL #66 IS IN THE BOOKS.  We sincerely thank the Pancake Festival Committee, headed by Lori Kasun, for all of their hard work and planning these past six months.  We also thank our many sponsors and the members of our club that sought out those sponsorships.  This event would not be possible without the love and support of our membership - those who sold tickets, hung posters, sent out emails, brought guests, signed up to work one shift, signed up to work two shifts, spent all day Friday preparing for the breakfast, spent all day Saturday serving the breakfast, gave up their entire weekend making sure this would be the BEST community event that it could be.  This is a prime example of a "Service Above Self" Club and a beautiful role model for the entire community.  Congratulations on a job well done!

At our Board of Directors meeting this week, the board approved membership for Waukesha Mayor Shawn Reilly.  Welcome to our club, Shawn.  We look forward to working with you in Service Above Self.

Meeting on March 9th: 

We have a very interesting program planned for this meeting.   This may be a great meeting to bring a guest, spouse, potential new member.  Our speaker will be Gregory Lee Renz. Fire Captain Gregory Lee Renz was involved in a dramatic rescue of two little boys from their burning basement bedroom. He received a series of awards for this rescue including induction into the Wisconsin Fire and Police Hall of Fame in 2006. When he was asked to share the dramatic rescue at several awards banquets, he was moved by the emotional responses he received and was struck by the power of his storytelling. Gregory has always been an avid reader and thought maybe he could craft a compelling novel if he could learn how to get these stories on the page.  In 2008 Captain Renz retired, exchanging his turnout gear for a writing desk to pursue his passion, storytelling.
Greg is the author of a novel entitled, "Beneath the Flames."    Here is a summary of the book as printed by Goodreads:

 

BENEATH THE FLAMES is an intimate combination of love, race, and life as an urban firefighter.  A fire in a neighboring farmhouse has young farmer and volunteer firefighter, Mitch Garner, blaming himself for the tragic outcome. He struggles to hold it together at horrific scenes of violence and can’t do anything right at fires. Within weeks, he’s ready to give up and quit. PolioPlus Update:  So far this year (7/1/19-2/17/2020) our club has raised $635.  Thank you to everyone who has donated a raffle prize and to everyone who purchases tickets.  Our goal is $1500 by June 15.  We can do it!!!
