Eagle Scout project is a winner for inclusiveness

Local Scout Ben Nelson saw a need in our community and the Menomonee Falls Rotary helped with financial support.

People that were bound to wheelchairs were left out at our parks. They could not access the picnic tables. So Ben, also bound to a wheelchair decided to do something about it. For his Eagle Scout project, Ben designed and then built tables that would provide the access needed for a wheel chair. Click the link below for a Fox 6 report.

Locally, Menomonee Falls Police Chief ( AND ROTARIAN ) Anna Ruzinski is the spokesperson and face on this Year's Polio Awareness Campaign. Look for Chief Ruzinski on posters and signs around town where she shows us just how close we are to ending this dreaded disease. Included in the campaign, look for "Extinguish Polio" Banks where you can help contribute to this important effort.

At the Dec. 7th meeting, Danielle (Dani) Richmond was honored as Rotary's Student of the Month! Kathy Martin, principal from the Ben Franklin school system introduced Dani and shared a very moving and powerful story about Dani, and the type of person she is. Dani was also accompanied by her classroom teacher and parents.

Dani was born with many defects, including the need for a breathing tube, and multiple surgeries to insert rods to brace her back. Today, her nickname is “heart breaker”, which describes Dani to a tee. Described as "a good student, a good friend, and a bit of a mischief maker". Dani has overcome many of the disabilities she was born with and her positive attitude doesn’t let her physical challenges take away her spirit.

Congratulations Dani, and keep up the great work!!!

The Menomonee Falls Rotary Club received United Way's 2013 Volunteer Group of the Year Award for Waukesha County. The award was presented at The annual United Way Volunteer Recognition and Celebration Luncheon on April 24, 2013 at Country Springs Hotel in Pewaukee.

The club was nominated by Jennifer Horth, Executive Director of ARCh - Assoc. for the Rights of Citizens with handicaps. Ms. Horth's generous nomination included mention that the MF Rotary Club has donated more than $360,000 and 3,000 hours of volunteer time and resources to the community and worthy organizations over the years. The club also prides themselves on promoting proper immunizations for children all around the world.  Locally ARCh has been the beneficiary of a couple Grapes and Hops fundraisers held by the club - for THEIR outstanding work with children and adults with disabilities, and awareness of important social concerns like Shaken Baby Syndrome, bullying, diversity, and a champion of inclusion for all.

In turn, the Rotary Club designated ARCh as the recipient of it's $500 Financial Award that was part of the honor. This award is sponsored by the honorable Paul Reilly and Kristin Reilly.
