LAKE COUNTRY CARING

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT

This will be a clothes and blanket drive.  Lake Country Caring's biggest needs right now are men's casual clothes and blankets.  Specifically:  men's jeans, sweat pants and athletic shorts, men's sweatshirts and athletic tops, men's winter coats, blankets and throws for the whole family.  Items should be in-style, new or gently used, clean, without stains, and in-season.  Beginning at our meeting on October 26th and running through November 16th, Theresa Lublin will have clear plastic bags for you to place your donations in.   You will be asked to place your items in those bags and either bring them to our meeting on November 16th or to one of our designated drop off sites.  There will also be two sign up sheets at our meeting:  one sign up sheet  for business locations who would be willing to have a drop off site (for those people who want to donate and cannot attend the 11/16/2018 Rotary meeting.)  The other sign up sheet will be for people willing to transport the donated items to LCC after the meeting on 11/16/2018.   Questions?  Contact Theresa

RECYCLE LANDSCAPE PLASTICS

FREE SERVICE TO RECYCLE LANDSCAPE PLASTICS

(WAUKESHA, WI) – With fall landscaping season at its peak, Waukesha County reminds residents and businesses to utilize Johnson's Nursery’s free service to recycle landscape plastics not accepted in their curbside recycling containers. Johnson's Nursery, Inc. is located at W180 N6275 Marcy Road in Menomonee Falls.

“This program is a cooperative effort between Johnson's Nursery and Waukesha County Parks and Land Use,” said Analiese Smith, Recycling & Solid Waste Supervisor for Waukesha County. “Taking the extra effort to properly recycle these materials helps keep plastics out of landfills and saves more than 60% of the energy it takes to make brand new products.”

The used plastic growing pots, plant trays, and plant containers must be free of plant debris, tags, and metals, and be sorted by plastic type. Residents may drop off containers year-round during Johnson's Nursery’s business hours. Those with bulk quantities, such as businesses, are required to pre-sort, palletize, and call ahead to schedule a drop-off. Visit the retail office upon arrival for direction to the drop off area.

Recycling plant containers diverts them from Southeastern Wisconsin landfills, keeps contaminated plastics out of the City of Milwaukee/Waukesha County Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), and closes the recycling loop. The used pots will be recycled and used to make new landscape plastics.

For more information about recycling at Johnson's Nursery, Inc., call 262-252-4988 or visit www.kb.jniplants.com/landscape-container-recycling/. For more information on Waukesha County recycling, call 262-896-8300, or visit www.waukeshacounty.gov/recycling.
